coffee shop letter

It just so happens that this event was related to my date at a local coffee shop.

I'll start from the top, because I think the top part of a story is the most important. He walked me to Midnight Oil and opened the door. Two hot chocolates were made for us as we sat down at a small table in the back. The perfectly mixed drinks kept disappearing as the conversation got deeper. He put his arms around me as I opened up while guarding my heart at the same time.

The questions he asked kept multiplying and becoming more involved. He has put so much effort in getting to know me these past few months. I wish he had not appeared at a time in my life where my guard is up but then again, it feels nice to take things slow. As much as he will never understand having to move on, he has been so patient with me since we met three months ago. I have maintained enough of a distance to where I feel close but not too close to him, and he has helped keep that balance.

My phone lit up with a new text message four hours after he had dropped me off at my dorm. He told me he accidentally dropped something in my backpack so I rushed back to my room and found an envelope with my name on it. As I sat on the bed beside my best friend I began to read each sentence carefully. It was at that moment that I realized there were better people out there, guys that would write me letters, take me on coffee dates, listen to me vent, and wait for me. The whole letter was about how he was going to patiently wait for me and be my friend, no matter whether I felt the same way toward him or not. The ending was beautiful.

"I'm not going to plead or beg you to be something you're not ready to be. But your knight is waiting for you. Whenever you're ready."

This guy is a gentleman. His heart is more red than black, and I like that about him.
