perspective matters

This night gave me a whole new perspective on how I look at life.

A trip to Sonic turned into a sermon outside, and if Harding didn't have curfew I'm not sure if I could have left that parking lot while he was speaking. He was a friend of my friend who came to Searcy from Britain with a heart full of love, life, and an amazing ability to share the wisdom he's gained over the years.

The talk began with a table discussion of about 8 people which soon was dominated by this guy, who explained the importance of God in all of your relationships at Harding. He kept persuading us not to seek out the guys here but be a genuine person and focus on making ourselves a better person first. He went on about his life, how his broken family had persuaded him to be an atheist but how he has completely given his life to God at Harding. Annnnd then he found a girl.

"Beware, every relationship that doesn't involve true love and focuses on the relationship instead of serving others together, isn't the right one to be in. Just because you go to church with that person doesn't mean your relationship has God in it."

And he asked me about my story, and so I told him. I couldn't help but cry when he hugged me because I didn't realize how much I had needed that hug. I heard everyone's story that night and by the very end you could feel all the burdens we used to carry rising up in the air, away from our group. I realized I put myself in positions to receive less than I deserve, instead of keeping my high standards. After Sonic was no longer open and the Harding curfew had passed, all the girls sat in my dorm room talking about the guy who had helped us understand how desperately we were searching for the wrong things.

All of us agreed that if we ever ended up dating a guy at Harding, we wanted a guy like the guy who talked to us at Sonic. And then we all agreed that he's the only one out there and we cried all over again.

Great night, great night.
