making a difference
In one week, you can make a difference.
A handful of Harding students drove up for a mission trip to Dermott in March. My expectations were pretty low because I could not understand how one life could be drastically effected in so little time. The banquet (read here) was a special occasion on that mission trip for the girls and at the end we gave them cross necklaces to remind them of what we talked about. When I came back this weekend, one of the girls was still wearing her cross necklace. She repeated specific phrases that were said from the event by me and the others. Her love for me and detailed memory of the banquet proved me wrong in so many ways.
A life can be changed in a matter of seconds with a handful of words. To be loved so dearly by all the girls roughly tugged on my heart. They teach me more than I teach them. I am planning a special Christmas party and hope that I can bring them all presents in a few months. Now that I am back on my hectic schedule I miss how peaceful I am there.
That community humbles me. That community welcomes me. That community loves me.
