day camp training

We bonded over a hike in multi-colored chacos. I was told this would be a week full of training for day camp sessions but it was really a week for manual labor and hardcore cleaning. The heat of summer paired up with Arkansas' humidity does not make for an easy environment.

On our night off, a bunch of us went to bee rock so we could watch the sunset. We stayed there for two hours lost in conversation and it was nice to feel peace again. It has been so hectic waking up at seven every morning, working until 5, and then being an overnight counselor for older kids. It's a 24-7 job that never stops. I came here to help children but with that came a lot more stress and exhaustion than expected.

I love it here, though. I love being able to help people from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep. I love getting to hear what's going on in the campers lives and being able to show compassion. I love the hugs, the kisses, the friendships. I couldn't ask for a better summer.
