black vs white
Some people like to view issues as the darkest shade or the lightest shade possible. I tend to stand in the middle ground marked with a mix of black and white combined. Most call this the "grey area" and I just refer to it as "my area."
When someone decides there is a right and a wrong, that someone has created a conflict. When someone decides they are right the other is automatically put in the other category and their words become powerless. What if I believed there is more than one way to go about certain things? What if I said there is two or maybe three "rights" for one situation, they just come from a different point of view? When someone decides that there may be more than one right, they have opened themselves up to humbleness and acceptance of another person's view, whether they agree or not.
My way or the highway is the attitude of most "black/white" people. Everyone comes with a different background, a different story that they hold within themselves. With this comes a unique perspective. If someone else's unique perspective doesn't align with your unique perspective, does this make them wrong and you right? Is one truly better than the other?
I'm not saying there isn't wrong. Sin that is defined by the Bible is wrong and there is no grey. Period. But if someone breaks a tradition in the church that is seen as biblical but was really man-made, there is controversy when there doesn't need to be. The heart is judged by God, not humans. I feel as if people put themselves in the place of God and use their own black and white standards as a tool for judging others.
My thought for the day: I like the color grey.

Can you expand on the tradition that was broken?
ReplyDeleteLike at my church back home (I'm not saying all churches) if someone didn't wear "nice Sunday clothes" to church they would be looked down on because you are not giving your "best" to God on the Lord's day. Or if someone drank wine at a social gathering and someone in the church saw this and made a huge deal how they sinned because they drank alcohol, even though the Bible does not say drinking alcohol is a sin, it's the misuse of it. Things like that!
DeleteHaley, I see what you're saying. I agree, there is a difference between right and wrong as started by God and man's traditions, "You're wrong, I'm right," point of view. :) I want to know more too. Annalisa
