Tuesdays and Thursdays are my days to be a "rock" mentor to a bunch of neglected and abused kids from third to ninth grade. It's the potential these kids possess that keep me coming. They are all so misguided and mistreated that they cry out for attention in horrible ways. I watch their anger problems become triggered by a simple annoyance and before I know it, the scissors come out as they chase the other child screaming "I'm going to kill you!" Reactions like this are a cry for something more than discipline, it is a cry for love. That's why I go, because I love to love.
Tuesday nights involve a bunch of soul food with the church I am getting more involved in. On Monday night, we went out to random houses and apartments with a bunch of flyers at hand in hopes that some of them would like to come and eat with us on Tuesdays. I got to meet up with a lot of fantastic people while sharing an incredibly awesome meal together. Their children opened their hearts toward me and by the end of the night, I had become one of them as I chased them around the building.
It's just a great thing to get involved in the community and be able to help some people that aren't as fortunate as I am. I get to love on some children and then I get to love on some adults which in the end, I receive more love than I have given. That's the way service works, ya know. There is so much joy in giving to other people that all the happiness you get back is almost selfish in a way. If you have the opportunity of being someones rock, especially a child's, do it. There is a lot of people that are desperate for help and all they need is your time and your love.
The title was supposed to be a play on "rock and roll" in case you didn't get it.
Awww, they are adorable! I found your blog through Kim's Coach Purse giveaway and I am so glad I did, I love it and I am now following you! Happy almost Friday!
