bloggy rules

I'm pretty sure my blog breaks the blog rules.

I keep finding these lists on the internet of what makes a good blogger good and a bad blogger bad. But I think that when it all comes down to it, a blog isn't about following a set of rules, it's about being unique and creative.

#1. The majority of these lists involved keeping posts surface level at all times.
I may be the only person in this whole entire world that enjoys the kind of blog that isn't afraid to share personal struggles and journeys through life, and if I am, so be it. But blogging is more than just a daily update or journal for me, and I love being able to open up. Be a real blogger, the kind that isn't afraid to be personal.

#2. It's all about the followers.
But really, it's not. That number on your blog sidebar doesn't define your blog even though I know most people believe it does. Sometimes, my number discourages me, but I have to remember why I blog in the first place. I don't blog for numbers, I blog for myself.

#3. Your blog has to look a certain way, otherwise it's "out."
Well if that's the case then I guess consider me "out," because I don't think you have to have a paid for design to be considered "in." If your blog design screams that it's your blog, then I'm sure everyone will love it.

Everyone's blog is unique and personal, people should be able to express themselves however they want to without having to worry about being critiqued or getting negative comments. So really, I don't like the list of rules the internet says I have to follow and I think I'm going to keep breaking the rules if that's okay with you guys. There was a lot more rules, but I don't want to keep rambling.
Okay, I'm done. The end.

  7. Great post. Blogging is definitely not about the followers, its about the content - what you write, and express. The great thing is if you love writing, and you enjoy your blog then likely other people will as well and then the loyal readers will come along without that being the main goal. Also totally agree about the layout, you do not need to pay for a good layout - a clean, simple layout is definitely the easiest to read from and that can easily be made without any $$ involved.
